Sourdough Bread Workshop (2 Day Class)
SESSION 1 – January 29, 2026
There are so many rewards to making your own sourdough starter from the satisfaction of maintaining a naturally occurring yeast culture to the incredible flavor and texture it brings to homemade bread.
Our featured cookbook this month is Big Book of Bread by King Arthur Baking Company, and we’re kicking off the year with a two-day, hands-on sourdough bread workshop.
Over the course of two sessions, you’ll learn how to create and maintain a naturally occurring yeast starter, understand the fundamentals of sourdough fermentation, and put your starter to work making, shaping, proofing, and baking a sourdough sandwich loaf.
Because good bread takes time, we’ll make the most of the rising and proofing periods. We’ll discuss the different stages of bread making, enjoy lunch together, and have time to explore the Republic of Letters bookstore, where The Book Kitchen is housed, as well as the other shops in Mineral Point. The Republic of Letters is also generously offering workshop participants a 20% discount on books.
Our goals are that you leave with the knowledge and confidence to continue your sourdough baking at home.
*Attending both January 29 and 30 workshops is required.
