The Book Kitchen is a teaching kitchen housed in the Republic of Letters Bookstore on 151 High Street in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
It is a place to gather, have fun, learn, and get creative in the kitchen. We provide hands-on and demonstration cooking and baking classes taught by chefs and cookbook authors showcasing recipes and techniques primarily from cookbooks.
The short answer is—a whole lot! Over the past year, our team has hosted:
At The Book Kitchen, we believe cooking should be fun, accessible, and diverse. Our mission is to build ties among food and our food makers and become the mid-point between our local farms and the dinner table. We strive to make a positive contribution to our community by building self-confidence and broadening the learning experience through food.
Nicole’s culinary journey led her from Chicago to the charming town of Mineral Point, where serendipity played a hand in her next adventure. She crossed paths with Keith Burrows and Leslie Damaso, the spirited owners of The Republic of Letters Bookstore.
It was in this delightful meeting of minds and shared passions that The Book Kitchen was born. This collaboration brought together the love for both literature and delectable cuisine, creating a unique and enchanting culinary destination for the community and beyond.
Together, they embarked on a culinary and literary journey, crafting a space where the written word and the art of cooking came together in perfect harmony, offering patrons a truly remarkable experience for the senses.
Mineral Point, Wisconsin is nestled in the heart of the stunning Driftless Region. Unlike other areas that were covered by ice during the last ice age, this untouched gem is free from the glacial deposits known as drift. The result? A landscape that’s nothing short of enchanting, with its steep hills, forested ridges, and meandering river valleys.
But Mineral Point is more than just breathtaking scenery. It’s a town with a rich history that takes you on a journey to a Cornish village. The Cornish miners who settled here left an indelible mark, crafting charming stone homes and businesses along High Street, our town’s main thoroughfare. Today, this history lives on as Mineral Point’s commitment to historic preservation thrives.
Our town has also evolved into a vibrant artist colony. Explore unique shops featuring the work of talented potters, painters, and artists of all mediums. Mineral Point is where creativity thrives, and you’ll discover one-of-a-kind treasures that you won’t find anywhere else in Southwest Wisconsin.
