Sean Sherman’s The Sioux Chef’s Indigenous Kitchen is an exceptional exploration of Native American cuisine, celebrating the vibrant flavors and ingredients of the indigenous peoples of the Dakota and Minnesota territories. This forward-thinking, James Beard Award-winning cookbook has inspired our special Friendsgiving menu, which honors the traditional foodways of these cultures.

After spending the summer with this cookbook on my desk, I felt this season was the perfect time to highlight its beautifully crafted recipes. As Thanksgiving approaches, The Book Kitchen team is excited to present a dinner featuring authentic Native American dishes that honor the land’s bounty and the deep cultural roots of its indigenous stewards.

Our menu showcases a thoughtfully curated selection of recipes, from Wild Rice Cakes to Bison Hunter’s Stew, all grounded in sustainability and tradition. We hope you’ll join us at our dining table for a celebration of indigenous cuisine, community, and gratitude.

Menu Highlights*

  • Wild Rice Cakes
  • Salad of Griddled Squash, Apples, Greens, and Toasted Walnuts
  • Bison Hunter’s Stew, Autumn Squash & Cranberries
  • Autumn Harvest Cookies

*Menu items are subject to change based on ingredient availability.
